South Harbor Project, America’s Central Port | Industry | Granite City, Illinois

Mississippi River approximately 1,700 feet downstream of the Chain of Rocks Canal and approximately 1.3 miles downstream of Locks No. 27. The harbor will occupy an area of approximately 1,600 feet long by approximately 400 feet wide. Approximately 1,000,000 cubic feet of material will be removed to construct the facility. The harbor will ultimately provide a public dry-dock terminal to transfer liquid bulk and dry distillers grain and solubles along with compatible dry bulk products from land to river-side barge loading. A landside liquid bulk and dry bulk public receiving station with directly associated rail and roadway and surge storage; designed to accommodate future in-bound transfer of liquid bulk and dry bulk products and longer term dry bulk product storage land side.

Juneau Associates has provided engineering for the project consisting of preparing USACE 404 permitting documentation, Illinois EPA permit documentation including a project Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan and construction documents and specifications for Phase 1. The construction documents include the plans and specifications for ten (10) new relief wells.
