Granite City High School Foundation Repair | Education | Granite City, IL
Juneau Associates, Inc. P.C. was contracted by the Granite City School Board to inspect, evaluate and recommend repairs for the existing concrete columns supporting the vocational wing of the Granite City High School. The high school was built in 1928 and significant deterioration of the columns in the basement / crawlspace below the 5,700 square foot vocational wing was found during the inspection. Juneau’s scope of work for this project included:
- Performing a visual inspection of the concrete columns from within the crawl space below the vocational wing of the high school
- Analyze the existing columns to determine their structural capacity in their current condition based on the deterioration noted in the visual inspection
- Group columns into categories based on their current condition and loading requirements and prepare a plan for strengthening the columns in each category
- Design and detail the repairs for the existing columns
- Prepare final construction documents including plans and project specifications
- Prepare an Engineers estimate of probable construction costs
- Provide construction phase services including shop drawing review and answering contractors RFI’s
Overall 25 columns in the crawlspace below the vocational wing of the Granite City High School were repaired. The repairs were detailed such that no temporary shoring of the existing structure was required. The total construction costs for the repair work was $ 89,000.
