Liberal Arts Building at SWIC | Education | Belleville, Illinois

Juneau provided civil engineering for the design of the Liberal Arts building as subconsultants to the architectural firm of Peckham, Guyton, Albers & Viets (PGAV). Services provided for the project included preliminary planning, topographic surveys, civil engineering, miscellaneous structural engineering, cost estimating and construction observations.Options and cost estimates were prepared for the relocation of the adjacent creek and the planning of a signalized intersection on Illinois Route 161, which were being considered for coordination with potential uses of the undeveloped property located to the west.

Funding for the building project was administered through the Capital Development Board (CDB) while portions of the infrastructure were not. Separate bid packages that were not administered through CDB were issued for construction of the storm sewer system improvements and for the construction of the Information Science Building parking lot expansion.

The future extension of the storm sewer trunk line was also designed for a connection to parking lot M1 to alleviate drainage problems and the undersized sewers that exist in that area. Also included as part of the storm sewer system improvements construction package, were modifications and extensions to the existing water main system provided for the campus. Prior to this construction, campus water supply was provided from only one source which was located along Green Mount Road.  With the improvement made to the water system during this project, the main campus building is now provided with an additional connection to the public main located along Illinois 161.

Since 1993, Juneau has provided civil engineering for a variety of building and infrastructure projects on the Southwestern Illinois College Belleville Campus.
