Bethalto Wastewater Excess Flow Detention Basin
The Village of Bethalto’s Regional Interceptor Sewer was being overloaded during periods of heavy rainfall. The City of Alton requested that all users of the Alton Waste Water Plant install detention basins to hold back peak stormwater flows.
To address the situation, Juneau designed a 6-million-gallon detention basin with a pump station. The system also included a submersible pump station, junction structures and diversion structures to equalize the flow of stormwater to the wastewater treatment plant in an effort to alleviate overflows.
Juneau assisted the Village in obtaining an IEPA zero percent loan provided by the American Recovery and Investment Act that included 25% loan forgiveness. They also obtained all permits necessary for the construction of the project and helped in finding the appropriate site for the detention basin.
