MetroLink DowntownTransit Center | Transportation | St. Louis, MO
The Downtown Transit Center provides an interconnection between Bi-State Development’s Bus system, their MetroLink Light Rail system, Amtrak, and Greyhound. The goal of this project was to expand and upgrade Bi-State Development’s existing facility, located in downtown Saint Louis at the intersection of 14th Street and Clark Street. The existing Downtown Transit Center had six bus bays – this project’s improvements added an additional 11 bus bays for the current bus fleet and three bays for articulated buses. The building on the South section of the property, which served as bus operator restrooms, was replaced with a larger 4,000 S. F. Two-Story Station Building designed to provide the following features:
- Passenger Waiting Room
- Vender – Convenience Store
- Information – Security Office
- Passenger Restrooms
- Operator’s Restrooms
- Bi-State Personal Offices
- Storage Space
- Communications Center
This existing transit center site slopes significantly from East to West; therefore, to provide more usable space to accommodate the additional bus bays, the larger station building, and the required pedestrian access ramps, approximately 460 linear feet of architecturally enhanced Large Block Retaining Walls and 430 linear feet of Small Block Retaining Walls were utilized on the site.
