Eatherton Road over Bonhomme Creek Bridge Replacement | Wildwood, Missouri

Juneau Associates Inc, P.C. was contracted by the City of Wildwood, Missouri, to replace an existing single span bridge, 34 feet long by 18 feet wide. Juneau’s tasks included hydraulics and scour analyses, evaluating various bridge replacement options and preparing the final construction documents and right-of-way plans. The Eatherton Road Bridge Replacement was 80% federally funded and administered through the City of Wildwood. Plan review for this project was provided by MoDOT.

The bridge replacement option selected for this project is a single span structure, 80 feet long and 33 feet four inches wide. The bridge accommodates two 11 foot wide traffic lanes, two (2) four foot wide shoulders, and two Kansas Corral Safety Barriers. The bridge superstructure consists of five 33X48 inch Prestressed Concrete Spread Box Beams supporting an eight and one-half inch thick reinforced concrete deck. The substructure is composed of integral end bents supported by end bearing steel piles. The roadway alignment was also improved. Due to hydraulic needs the vertical profile was raised over 5 feet and the roadway was widened from less than 20 feet to 32 feet to provide 2 – 12’ lanes with 4’ shoulders and accommodate driveways located less than 100’ both North and South of the proposed bridge.

The bridge’s superstructure is located such that it is above the 50-year design flood event plus a minimum of one foot of freeboard. The superstructure is also located above the 100-year flood event and will produce less than one foot of backwater over the natural or no bridge condition.
