Steel Sculpture – McKinley Bridge Roadside Park | Parks and Recreation
Juneau was contracted to provide the structural engineering design and to develop the construction documents for a new 5 ½-story sculpture located in the McKinley Bridge Roadside Park at the intersection of Illinois Route 3 and Main Street at the east end of the McKinley Bridge. The sculpture was constructed from stainless steel pipe, tube and plate sections and supported by a reinforced concrete foundation. The top feature consists of three intertwined stainless steel rings, constructed from plate material, that symbolize the three major cities along Route 3, Granite City, Madison, and Venice, Illinois.
The painted columns that emanate from the upper rings were positioned to represent the pouring of steel, emphasizing the impact the steel industry has had on this region. In addition to providing the structural services, Juneau also provided Construction Phase Services, including shop drawing review and site visits. The sculpture and Roadside Park were dedicated in November 2007 when McKinley Bridge was re-opened.
